Last bolts at the front-1

The last bolts at the front proved very difficult to get out. There were two each side that we wanted out intact but....

Last bolts at the front-2

We ended up burning them out with the oxy - acetylene

Last bolts at the front-3

In some cases it was more a case of vapourising them

Front Free

The front didn't want to come free. It had to be jacked out in the end.

Rear Bolts 1

As predicted yesterday they wouldn't undo

Rear Bolts 2

So they also got vapourised

Balance

Picking it up involves a single chain so you have to find the balance. This time it had the header on and the elements in!

High Enough?

We had a limited height we could lift it so we had to twist it around to get it off

Lagging Kaput?

Finding the balance point took several goes and didn't do the lagging any good

Remove the engine

With it lifted and the firebox turned out of the way the engine was pulled out

Naked Lady - 1

The engine was pulled clear. Of course, it rained

Naked Lady - 2

The loco was taken right down the yard and parked by the main line.

No Cladding

With the engine out of the way we had to strip all the lagging off. ITCHY!!!!!!!!!!!!

PanPlate

We also lifted the panplate out and had to take this off by lowering the boiler and unbolting it before lifting again

Final Lift

Finally it was lifted to clear the lorry deck

Hanging Around

The dangling boiler gave in interesting perspective

Got to Go

It was a tight fit to get out of the door. 2 Studs had to go.

Only Just

Even without the studds it came out with only half inch to spare

Tie Down

Once out it had to be tied down on the lorry

Bye Bye

Even getting out of the yard was a tight fit

Bye Bye 2

Once on the road it was quickly away and as I write it is already at the boiler works

Last Thoughts -1

I took these last three photo's to show what a close fit in the frames the boiler is

Close fit
